Cut
What Is Diamond Cut?
Diamond cut isn’t just about shape like oval, round, pear— it’s the craftsmanship that brings a diamond to life. It refers to how well a diamond’s facets are shaped and arranged to reflect light. The better the cut, the more brilliance. Why Cut Matters
Of the 4 Cs (cut, color, clarity, carat), cut has the biggest impact on how a diamond looks. Even a high-quality diamond can appear dull if the cut is poor. A well-cut diamond captures light and returns it with dazzling brilliance and sparkle.- Proportions – The size and angles of the facets affect how light reflects.
- Symmetry – Balanced facet alignment enhances the stone’s sparkle.
- Polish – Smooth facets boost light reflection.
- Light Performance – How well a diamond reflects and scatters light to create brilliance, fire, and scintillation.
How Is Cut Graded?
Cut quality is graded by expert gemological labs. We use only IGI-certified lab-grown diamonds, graded for brilliance, fire, symmetry, and polish. IGI’s scale includes: Ideal · Excellent · Very Good · Good · Fair · Poor We select diamonds with top-tier cuts so every piece shines with maximum beauty.Color
How Important Is Diamond Color?
Color is one of the key factors that affects a diamond’s look and value. The less color present, the rarer and brighter the stone.
Just like natural diamonds, lab-grown diamonds are graded using the D–Z scale. The International Gemological Institute (IGI) evaluates each stone with expert precision to ensure consistency and transparency.
- D: Completely colorless — rare and prized for icy brilliance
- E–F: Colorless — nearly identical to D to the naked eye
- G–J: Near-colorless — bright and beautiful, ideal for most settings
- K–L: Faint tint — warm and vintage-inspired, especially in yellow gold
At Trillium, all of our lab-grown diamonds are certified by IGI, a globally trusted grading authority. We focus on stones graded E/F, ensuring each one offers outstanding beauty, balance, and quality.
Clarity
What Is Diamond Clarity?
Diamond clarity measures how clean a diamond is — specifically, the number and visibility of inclusions (internal marks) and blemishes (surface marks). These tiny imperfections form naturally or during lab creation and make each diamond truly unique. At Trillium, we focus on eye-clean lab-grown diamonds — stones that appear flawless without magnification — offering exceptional beauty without the premium price of perfection. Why Clarity Matters
Clarity affects both a diamond’s sparkle and value. Fewer inclusions mean more brilliance, as light can pass through the diamond more easily. IGI Clarity Grading Scale- FL–IF (Flawless to Internally Flawless): No visible inclusions, even under magnification
- VVS1–VVS2 (Very, Very Slightly Included): Inclusions are extremely hard to detect
- VS1–VS2 (Very Slightly Included): Minor inclusions, invisible to the eye
- SI1–SI2 (Slightly Included): Small inclusions, often still eye-clean
- I1–I3 (Included): Visible inclusions that may affect sparkle and structure.
Carat
Carat refers to a diamond’s weight—not its size. One carat equals 0.2 grams, about the weight of a paperclip. While it’s a small unit, it plays a major role in both the diamond’s value and visual impact.
Carat Weight vs. Diamond Size
Carat weight doesn’t always reflect how big a diamond looks. Cut plays a key role—two diamonds with the same carat can appear very different in size depending on proportions. That’s why carat should be evaluated alongside cut, clarity, and color..
